Quiet Time - Painting Rocks

This is an activity that Jake really loves. He started doing it last Autumn (when he was almost 3years old) and still does it a year later at almost four years old. Its really simple, no real mess, sets up and cleans up in minutes and has loads of benefits; the biggest one for Jake is that it helps him relax.
All you need is a paintbrushes, a cup of water and some large pebbles or small rocks - grey coloured ones work particularly well as you can see the colour change from the water more.
I love looking at these photos and noticing how he worked out to hold the rocks so he could paint all the rock. Problem solving and fine motor skills right there.
 Also LOVING the concentration faces!!
The tongue curl is just too cute!!

After he painted them for a while he began stacking the rocks. If you have ever tried to do this you will know it is quite difficult. I was pretty impressed with his effort!

Then he did a little experimenting with dropping the rocks into the water....
and then started to paint the table.... of course!
